MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, Inc., is actively recruiting for an experienced LEAD Echocardiographer to join our talent team!

The lead echo-cardiographer is responsible for testing, staffing, training and scheduling of the echo staff. The position is responsible for Echo Lab compliance with ICAEL Standards. Supervises other echo-cardiographers in the department.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education/Experience
    • High School Diploma/GED required. Associates Degree preferred
    • A minimum of three years of echocardiographer experience working with ICAEL standards.
    • 2 years of supervisory responsibilities
  • License/Certification/Registration
    • Certification in Echocardiography
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
    • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.

    • Knowledge and ability to make suggestions for improvements to procedures or innovations to enhance patient service.

    • Is familiar with departmental and hospital policies and procedures and adheres to them.
    • Ability to adhere to dress code and meet hospital guidelines regarding attendance and punctuality.
    • Demonstrate responsibility for professional development.
    • Ability to maintain a system where echocardiograms being done can be reviewed by the consulting cardiologist during his allotted times for rapid interpretation.
    • Is available for on call on a monthly rotational basis.
  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Ensures that echo tests and physicians comply with ICAEL lab standards.
    • Participates in intra/inter departmental performance improvement projects.
    • Coordinates monthly Echo conferences.
    • Participates in continuing education to ensure professional and personal growth.
    • Performs exercise testing, holter monitor application, scanning and EKGs.
    • Maintains a system where echo-cardiograms are being done and can be reviewed by the consulting physician during his allotted times for rapid interpretation.
    • Prepares daily work assignments to ensure necessary personnel coverage.
    • Consults and keeps Director informed of activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.
    • Conducts peer review and provides appropriate feedback to echo techs.
    • Provide information to the Director of Cardiology about the work performance of the other echocardiographers for purposes of their annual performance review.
    • Develop a training program surrounding the ICAEL standards.
    • Reviews cardiologists findings for compliance with ICAEL format.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
